The Blue Ocean Mocktail is the perfect alcohol-free tropical escape that brings the beachy vibes right to your glass. With its dreamy creamy blue color and frothy top that mimics ocean waves, this refreshing drink is as beautiful as it is delicious.

What makes the Blue Ocean Mocktail special is its balance of flavors. The fizzy soda and ginger ale create a bubbly base, while coconut cream adds silky richness that takes me to a beachside resort. Blue curaçao syrup delivers both the fabulous color and subtle citrus notes that perfectly complement the fresh lime juice.

The Star Ingredients

For this recipe, I specifically used Monin Blue Curaçao syrup, which gives the mocktail its signature ocean-blue hue without any alcohol.

Blue curaçao originated from the Caribbean island of Curaçao and was traditionally made from laraha citrus fruit. The syrup version captures the same citrus notes and vibrant color as the alcoholic liqueur, making it ideal for mocktails.

The Blue Hawaii Mocktail also features this syrup for those wanting more the pineapple route.

Fresh lime juice is absolutely essential here. The bottled stuff just doesn't provide the same bright acidity that balances the sweetness of the other ingredients. Trust me, squeezing a few limes is worth the extra effort!

And for coconut cream, I always have a can of full-fat coconut cream handy for other recipes like curries and my Ninja Creamis.

Pro Tip for Fresh Mint

If your mint is looking a bit droopy, you have to try this amazing bartender trick for reviving mint. Essentially you trim the mint and then shock it in ice-cold water for about 13 minutes, then transfer the stems to hot water.

This temperature contrast treatment perked my mint right up, and it stayed fresh for four days afterward!

Instructions

Let's make our drinks! You can make them start to finish in one glass. I'm using a hurricane glass.

lime juice, coconut cream and blue curacao being stirred in a hurricane glass
  1. Step 1: Start by combining the lime juice, coconut cream, and blue curaçao. Stir these ingredients well until the coconut cream is fully incorporated.
adding ginger ale and 7 up to the glass with the other ingredients
  1. Step 2: Gently pour in your lemon-lime soda and ginger ale to add the bubbly element.
adding ice to the drink in the glass
  1. Step 3: Add ice. I like nugget ice, but regular cubes are great, too!

  1. Step 4: Finish with a fresh orange slice and a sprig of mint.

Hint: This mocktail adapts easily to different preferences. Use zero-calorie sodas to reduce sugar without sacrificing flavor. For a lighter version, simply omit the coconut cream. The drink will be clearer blue with a stronger citrus profile.

Serving a Crowd

Planning to serve Blue Ocean Mocktails at your next gathering? This recipe scales up easily. For a batch that serves about 8-10 people, multiply all the liquid ingredients by 8 (8 oz blue curaçao syrup, 4 oz coconut cream, 4 oz fresh lime juice, 24 oz lemon-lime soda, and 16 oz ginger ale).

I recommend making a base mixture of the blue curaçao syrup, coconut cream, and lime juice in advance and storing it in the refrigerator. When guests arrive, simply stir the base mixture, add the carbonated ingredients, and pour over ice. This way, the sodas won't lose their fizz, and you won't be stuck playing bartender all night.

For an extra special touch, set up a DIY garnish station with orange slices, mint sprigs, and perhaps some pineapple chunks or maraschino cherries so guests can customize their drinks. Not only is this practical, but it also becomes a fun interactive element for your party!
